Updated 4th April 2013 One Seed and One nameThe blessing of Abraham is the blessing of the ‘Seed’and the blessing of the ‘name’. When the Lord responded to Abraham’s faith on Moriah, He promised that he would be blessed, his offspring multiplied and that in his Seed (singular), all the nations of the earth would be blessed. Gen 22:17-18. Paul makes it clear that the Seed referred to here is Christ. Gal 3:16. The Lord also told Abraham that his descendants would be named in Isaac. Gen 21:12. Rom 9:7. To understand what this means, we need to understand that the descendants of Abraham are all those who are of faith. Gal 3:7. Further, we need to see that to be named in Isaac, is to come into the name of the one Seed, Christ. We call on His name and are saved. Rom 10:13. But when we are baptised into His name, (that is, the name of the Lord Jesus Christ), we start to have insight into our own name and identity as individual sons of God. And then, when the Lord calls us all by name, we hear His voice. The offering of the Lamb has made provision for our inclusion in the one Seed and one name. It has granted to us all things pertaining to life and godliness so that we become partakers of the divine nature. 2Pe 1:2-4. |
